Indonesia Chicken Satay Recipe


What can be as good as experiencing a culture through its food. Here comes Satay with its uniqueness. A recipe which belongs to Java, Indonesia which undergo a process of seasoned, skewered and grilled meat, served with a sauce.

Satay may consist of diced or sliced chicken, goat, mutton, beef, pork, fish, other meats, or tofu. The more authentic version uses skewers from the midrib of the coconut palm frond, although bamboo skewers are often used. These are grilled or barbecued over a wood or charcoal fire, then served with various spicy seasonings. Satay is available almost anywhere in Indonesia, where it has become a national dish. It is also popular in many other Southeast Asian countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, the Philippines, and Thailand, as well as in Suriname and the Netherlands, as Indonesia and Suriname are former Dutch colonies.

Satay is a very popular delicacy in Indonesia; the country's diverse ethnic groups' culinary arts  have produced a wide variety of satays. In Indonesia, satay can be obtained from a travelling satay vendor, from a street-side tent-restaurant, in an upper-class restaurant, or during traditional celebration feasts. In Malaysia, satay is a popular dish especially during celebrations and can be found throughout the country.

Ingredients for making Chicken Satay Recipe:

1½lb Chicken breast (cut into ¾ inch strips)
Bamboo skewers

Marinade:
4 tbsp. Coconut milk
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 tbsp. Soy sauce (Golden Mountain)
1 tsp. Brown sugar
½ tsp. Cumin Powder
½ tsp. Coriander Powder
1 tsp curry or turmeric Powder
1/3 tsp. salt
½ tsp. black pepper

Basting Sauce:
½ cup Coconut milk
1/3 tsp. Sugar
1/3 tsp. Turmeric or curry powder

In large mixing bowl, combine all the marinade thoroughly. Add Chicken slices, mix well and keep aside at least for an hour. Put the chicken in to skewers and refrigerate for half a day. When needs it , grill it and baste occasionally during cooking. OR back in the oven on 350” F about 45 minutes until chicken cooked.

Serve hot. You may have it with any spicy sauce but preferably with cucumber salad & Peanut sauce.
